Who doesn’t love a charity that supports furry friends? There are so many wonderful nonprofits in Utah that use their funds to rehome and rehabilitate animals. We decided to name a few of our favorites, and why we love them.
Humane Society of Utah
Based out of Murray, Utah, the Humane Society of Utah works to rehabilitate, shelter, care for, and find homes for animals. They also offer affordable care to families through their in-house clinic. In 2019 they helped to rehome over 7,000 animals. 80% of the charity’s expenses are used towards their mission.
Best Friends Animal Society
The Best Friends Animal Society is based out of Kanab, Utah, but they do work around the United States! Their ultimate goal as a charity is to end animal homelessness. On average, they put 71% of their proceeds towards meeting their annual goals. They have over 3,000 network partners that help them to work towards their mission.
Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation
Since 2002, the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation has placed over 2,000 animals in homes. Their initiatives include the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of homeless animals. They have the sweetest success stories that you can view on their website. The enormous costs of vetting and rehabilitating cats and dogs is only met due to the fact that they rely solely on volunteers and foster homes to shelter the animals while they are in the UAAF care.
Utah Friends of Basset Hound
Wholeheartedly devoted to Basset Hounds, the volunteers at the Utah Friends of Basset Hounds have been rescuing in Utah since 2002. Their mission is to lovingly rescue, spay or neuter, and rehome as many basset hounds as their funding will allow. Their website boasts a number of sweet success stories as well as ways to help their cause. There is a basset hound calendar and book available on their website, and 100 percent of proceeds go to help the charity!
Canines with a Cause
A wonderful charity that works their magic in Utah as well as southern Idaho is Canines with a Cause. They opened in 2010 and began training dogs as service companions. Their service dogs have gone to veterans in need of emotional therapy and companion animals. As a bonus, they offer free adoptions to those who participate in their ‘train the trainer’ program. Since 2010, they have placed over 500 animals from kill shelters into loving homes.
Second Chance Chi
Based out of Salt Lake City, Second Chance Chi is making a difference across both Utah and Illinois. Volunteers for the charity work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate dogs from high-kill shelters. Along with rescuing and rehabilitating, the charity encourages prospective dog owners to vet, spay, and neuter their animals. Their main focus is Chihuahuas and bully breeds, but they are always open to helping other breeds.
As always, we hope that sharing information about these wonderful charities will encourage you to donate. Donating comes in so many forms! You can donate your time or money, and make a huge difference with these animal loving charities.
